Introduction
The J05E is a 4-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled direct-injection diesel engine with electronically controlled high-pressure common rail. Its ultra-high-pressure common-rail injection works with an EGR system that lowers the intake temperature and oxygen concentration, and multi-stage injection is coordinated to burn fuel efficiently, deliver strong low- and mid-range torque, cut fuel costs and greatly reduce PM (particulate matter) and NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions.
Features
- Hino's HMMS combustion system, with four valves per cylinder in a staggered layout and twin swirl intake ports, keeps charging efficiency and mixture distribution across the whole speed range.
- Denso high-pressure common-rail injection with precise multiple injection and automatic per-cylinder fuel-quantity compensation allows a lower idle speed, and is built to resist vibration and heat.
- Honeywell GT35 turbocharger with wastegate: high efficiency and high flow for low fuel consumption and low exhaust noise.
- The cooling system uses imported proprietary temperature-control technology to limit temperature overshoot and halve the warm-up time.
- Overhead camshaft (OHC) layout needs no pushrods; the compact, stiffer valve train responds faster, improving acceleration and reducing mechanical noise.
- Concave cam profile gives an optimized valve lift curve, more intake air and low valve-seat impact.
- Roller tappets between cam and rocker arm cut friction and fuel consumption.
- The rear gear train improves the torsional-vibration behavior of the crank train, and the floating cylinder-head cover isolates vibration and reduces noise.
- Cylinder block with ribbed surfaces optimized by FEA; with dry cylinder liners the coolant passages are machined in the block, giving accurate passage dimensions and no leakage.
- One-piece cylinder head cast together with the rear gear housing, for higher strength, more accurate gear drive and reliable sealing.
- New pistons with a hollow wear-resistant ring insert run the top ring 50°C cooler, improving wear resistance.
